THE CHEMISTS, EQUIPMENT, AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE TO DO THE JOB

CTL has been providing industrial and environmental chemical analysis services to a wide variety of clients for over 50 years.  Specialized knowledge, expertise in applying the relevant tests, and advanced analytical instrumentation are the keys to successful chemical testing of your samples.  CTL’s chemical engineering team has the experienced personnel and equipment to test your samples and solve your most challenging problems.

WIDE RANGE OF CHEMICAL TESTS AND ANALYSIS

CTL provides a wide range of chemical tests and analysis on solid and liquid wastes, water and soil environmental samples, construction materials, thermal insulation, oils and fuels, and consumer products.  Sampling services and on-site testing are also available.

Some of our chemical engineering services include:

  • ASTM testing
  • NPDES testing
  • Custom testing
  • MSDS preparation
  • Flammability testing

CTL’s Chemistry Laboratory and chemical engineering experts are equipped to perform complete, accurate analyses on:

  • Oil
  • Soil
  • Water
  • Metals
  • Sludges
  • Concrete
  • Organic wastes
  • Liquid and solid fuel
  • Solid and hazardous wastes

Typical Applications include:

  • Failure analysis
  • Contamination ID
  • Materials analysis
  • Product evaluation
  • Compliance testing
  • Competitive analysis
  • Remediation studies

CTL PROVIDES CONSULTATION AND ASSISTANCE TO DETERMINE THE RIGHT TYPE OF ANALYSIS

Environmental Samples

Testing of waste materials and other environmental samples is essential to meet regulatory compliance requirements and to understand the nature of the samples.  CTL’s chemists can provide consultation and assistance in identifying the type of analysis needed to meet the requirements.

Organic and inorganic analyses are performed using gas chromatograph/mass spectrometers (GC/MS), gas chromatographs spectrophotometers (GC), atomic absorption spectrometers (AA), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and wet chemical techniques.  Whether you need to determine if any environmental contaminants exist (e.g., priority pollutants, heavy metals, TCLP, etc.) or if you need to characterize the sample (e.g., flash point, corrosivity, redox), CTL can provide the analysis required.

The testing is performed under rigorous quality assurance procedures to ensure accurate results.  Sampling containers and recommendations on sampling methods can be provided if needed.

Construction Materials

CTL’s long association with the construction industry has meant the chemistry laboratory has extensive experience with testing construction materials.  For example, concrete is tested for composition, reactivity, chloride, and sulfate content.  Limestone and sands are subjected to a battery of tests to characterize the material for use in construction projects.  Soils are tested for sulfate content (ODOT Supplement 1122 and TEX-145-E), corrosivity, and physical characteristics.  Contaminants found on construction sites are analyzed to determine their composition and likely source.

Thermal Insulation

Thermal insulation manufacturers, distributors, and installers using insulation in critical applications rely upon CTL to perform testing of the insulation to verify conformance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements and ASTM or military test standards.  Chemical analysis and corrosivity testing of the insulation is typically performed.  In particular, insulation testing is routinely conducted per NRC Regulatory Guide 1.36 as well as ASTM standards C692, C795, C871, and C1617.

Oils and Fuels

The chemistry laboratory can test oils, fuels, and related hydrocarbon-based samples for many physical and chemical characteristics.  This can include viscosity, flash point, pour point, total acid and base numbers, water content, and contaminant identification.  Anti-freeze solutions in wet sprinkler system piping are also tested to determine the type of anti-freeze present and its protection capabilities.

Consumer Products

Manufacturers, distributors, retailers, attorneys, and insurance companies depend upon CTL for chemical analysis of consumer products as an independent laboratory.  Testing is performed to determine if a product meets its specification requirements, to reverse engineer a part, to investigate defects, or as part of failure analysis.  Product testing engineers are available to assist with other aspects of the testing program if needed.

CTL SPECIALIZES IN ONE-OF-A-KIND PROJECTS
