Construction Engineering Technicians-Central and Northeast Ohio
General Statement of Duties :
We are seeking Construction Engineering Technicians within the Construction Services Department to meet the growing demand for our Central and Northeast Ohio offices. Projects include state, county, local roadway and bridges as well as municipality utilities and infrastructures.
Supervision Received: Works independently on broad projects under the direction of a Department Manager.
Supervision Exercised: No direct supervisory duties required but provides direction project basis or supervises direct reports.
Examples of Duties:
- Performs construction inspection and testing services related to earthwork and utilities, concrete, asphalt, masonry, fireproofing and structural steel for DOT, municipalities, and private sector clients.
- Performs computations with formulas, plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.
- Responsible for inspecting and reporting on specific aspects of construction works in progress, such as concrete pours, rebar placement, pipe replacements as examples. May be responsible for inspection and sampling of construction materials.
- Assists geotechnical engineers in the field during soil and materials investigations.
- Assure that job site tests/ inspections, including quality control, quality assurance, and verifications are performed in accordance with the standard test/ inspection methods, project specifications, and another contract document.
Minimum Education:

- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology or Construction Management preferred, or
- Equivalent post-secondary education 2 or 4-year degree
- High School diploma or GED required
Desired Experience:
- 2 years of construction inspection experience is desired, at a minimum. Will consider and train candidates with less experience.
Desired Certifications:
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I,
- NICET Level II Construction Materials Testing – Subfield Soils
- ICC Special Inspector Certifications for soils, concrete, masonry, steel and fireproofing
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector
- ASNT Nondestructive Testing Certification
- CTL will assist in obtaining certifications.
Desired Qualifications:
- Communication skills both verbally and in writing and clean driving record
