A Letter From CK Satyapriya: Summer 2020

A letter from our President CK Satyapriya for Summer 2020.  Each quarter the President & CEO of CTL Engineering addresses our clients and employee-owners.

Dear Valued Client,

As I stated in the Spring Newsletter, we are in unprecedented times. I hope all of you have weathered the storm up until now. Unfortunately, the virus seems to be making a comeback. To defeat this common enemy, we all need to work together by listening to scientists and following their advice.

I understand the frustration and the devastating impact on our fellow beings. We need to empathize with the frontline workers and support them by making sacrifices for the common good. If we do that, we can and will succeed. The few people who claim that they need not follow the advice, such as wearing a mask based on their twisted minds (no sound logic is involved), are actually impinging on most of our safety. These people need to understand that to live in a society they have to follow the laws and be considerate of others.

Another matter that the US is facing is Black Lives Matter, which is the result of systemic racism that has existed in the country for a long time. I want to express my support for the cause. Having come from a privileged class (not caste) in the largest democracy in the world (India) to the wealthiest democracy (USA), I have lived in a bubble. People like me cannot really empathize with people who have been denied freedom and live in fear. I, and people like me, have ignored the situation too long, wanting to merge with the mainstream and not make waves. We need to listen and observe to understand the plight of the mistreated and help mitigate the situation.

We at CTL will support a diversity of thought and deed, as stated in the US constitution, “freedom for ALL.” The ethos of CTL has been to listen and change to serve the community better.  We ask our clients, vendors, and employee-owners to share in this endeavor to become better human beings.

C.K. Satyapriya, P.E., D. GE, F. ASCE
