A Letter From CK Satyapriya: Summer 2023

A letter from our President CK Satyapriya for Spring 2023.  Each quarter the President & CEO of CTL Engineering addresses our clients and employee-owners.

Dear Client and Employee-owner:

We are thrilled to bring you the latest updates and insights from the construction, testing, and geotechnical engineering world. This edition will delve into two essential aspects of the construction industry – Non-destructive vs. Destructive Testing and a Closer Look at the Fascinating World of Geotechnical Engineering. Additionally, we proudly announce CTL’s recent accolade as the ESOP Company of the Year.

Non-destructive vs. Destructive Testing in Construction

The construction process involves rigorous testing to ensure the quality and safety of structures. Two significant methods employed in this endeavor are non-destructive testing (NDT) and destructive testing (DT). While both techniques serve distinct purposes, understanding their differences and applications is crucial for completing construction projects.

Understanding the advantages and limitations of NDT and DT is crucial for construction professionals, enabling them to make informed decisions to ensure safety and efficiency in their projects.

Earthwork: A Closer Look at the Fascinating World of Geotechnical Engineering

Beneath every successful construction project lies a captivating world of geotechnical engineering – the study of soil and rock mechanics. Geotechnical engineers evaluate soil properties, slope stability, and groundwater conditions to design foundations that can withstand the forces acting upon them. From skyscrapers to bridges, understanding the behavior of soil and rock formations is essential for creating safe and long-lasting structures.

A good foundation is necessary for all structures. A thorough investigation and appropriate testing are necessary to ascertain the site’s suitability. However, geotechnical engineers are often selected based on price, forcing the selected firms to cut corners and make conservative assumptions. As a result, the recommendations will be too conservative, which could make the cost of the project and the required schedule higher than the cost of the investigation. Therefore, we strongly recommend that the selection of the geotechnical engineers be Qualification Based Selection (QBS).  Research shows the benefits of using QBS for the owners and their consultants.

CTL Winning ESOP Company of the Year

We are delighted to share the momentous news that CTL has been recognized as the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) Company of the Year. This prestigious award celebrates our commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive work culture where every employee’s dedication contributes to our collective success.

Our journey as an ESOP company has been exciting, as employees have a direct stake in the company’s performance and growth. This recognition reaffirms our belief that empowered employees create an organization that thrives and achieves excellence.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our employees for their hard work, dedication, and unwavering support, which has made CTL a beacon of success in the engineering industry.
