Dan Westphal: CTL’s 2023 Employee of the Year

Each year, we want to recognize the extraordinary performance of an individual for their efforts as the Employee of the Year.  Any employee can nominate any other employee in the areas of dedication, leadership, and customer focus.

CTL’s 2023 Employee of the Year, Dan Westphal, radiates these attributes.

Background:

Dan Westphal’s story is one of dedication, growth, and a deep-rooted commitment to excellence. Hailing from Michigan City, Indiana, Dan attended Michigan City High School before pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science with a Minor in Geology at Saint Joseph’s College. During his college years, he was an active member of the Cross Country and Track teams.

Post-graduation, Dan embarked on a journey that led him to CTL Engineering. Settling in Indianapolis, he joined the company as an Engineering Technician after a brief period as a temp employee. Alongside his professional pursuits, Dan found joy in running, woodworking, vehicle maintenance, scuba diving, and contributing to the High School Cross Country coaching team. In his personal life, he shares 19 years of wedded bliss with his wife and is a proud father to three daughters aged 10, 18, and 20.

CTL History:

Dan’s association with CTL began on March 24, 2003, when he transitioned from a temporary to a full-time role as an Engineering Technician. His dedication and contributions did not go unnoticed, as he received the Employee of the Year award for the Indianapolis branch during the 2003-2004 fiscal year. Over the years, Dan rose through the ranks, taking on roles such as Construction Services Manager for the Indianapolis branch in 2007, all while maintaining responsibilities as the branch safety officer.

Dan’s impact extended beyond his immediate role, and his commitment was further recognized when he joined the ESOP Administrative Committee in 2017. Fast forward to January 2023, and Dan achieved another milestone with his promotion to Regional Service Group Manager for Drilling Services, Corporate Fleet Manager, and Indianapolis Safety Officer.

Current Responsibilities:

In his current multifaceted role, Dan oversees all aspects of running and building the drilling and sampling service line. As the Corporate Fleet Manager, he manages the company’s fleet, handling maintenance, analysis, purchasing, and ensuring adherence to applicable rules and regulations. Additionally, he serves as the Indianapolis Safety Officer, emphasizing the paramount importance of safety in all operations.

Achievements in 2023:

Dan’s achievements in 2023 are a testament to his leadership and strategic vision. His promotion to Regional Service Group Manager for all drilling departments showcased not only his individual growth but also CTL’s recognition of his capabilities. Dan successfully restaffed the West Virginia drilling department to full capacity, contributing significantly to the company’s operational efficiency. Meeting and exceeding the company’s drilling needs across all offices further underscored his dedication to service and excellence.
