Homegrown Leadership: A CTL Success Story Dawn Pressler

One of the unique qualities of CTL is how many people make it their forever career.  Maybe it’s the family-like atmosphere or the fact that people see the value in our ESOP.  Whatever the reason, CTL has many success stories, and here’s one of them.

Dawn Pressler moved home after graduating from Mt. Vernon Nazarene College with an Associate Degree in Secretarial Administration.  Her first job was for a local feed company and it did not go well.  At a friend’s birthday party, a relative from Columbus suggested she sign up with her favorite employment agency to apply for a job in the big city.  After 2 weeks of temp assignments, she landed an interview with CTL Engineering, Inc.  Dawn was hired full time as an administrative assistant in Construction Services on March 2, 1992.  Dawn received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree, also from MVNC, in 1998.

In 1995, while creating the original Quality System’s Manual, Dave Breitfeller gave Dawn the title Office Support Staff Manager within Construction Services.  Described in the manual as ‘the Office Support Staff will be overseen by the Office Support Staff Manager’ and a new position was born.  A few years later, CK ask Dawn to expand her position to all support staff in our service lines and branches.  With a goal of getting all branches and all departments to do things the same way as much as possible, and to support the admins with training, coverage while on vacation/leave, and most important a listening ear.

Today, in addition to her role as ‘Head Secretary Lady’, Dawn serves as co-chair of the Fun Czar/ESOP Educational Committee, Mentorship Program Manager, Concrete Reporting Program Administrator, and Human Resources back-up.  These many hats led to Dawn receiving the Employee of the Year award in 2019.

“What I love most about my job is being a liaison between the Operations side of the company and the Administration/Corporate side.  I have such a unique view of how our company operates and the amazing people that make CTL Engineering, Inc. great!”
